about

"What is life? It is the flash of a firelfly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."

Chief Crowfoot’s last words, 1890

These songs were written during and around two visits to Eastern Tennessee with my mum in April-May 2014 and March 2015 to visit and care for her younger sister Kay who lived on her own with failing health, who passed away (thankfully, at home in her sleep with her dogs by her side) near the end of our second visit.

Boz Hayward, May 2017

Night of the Fireflies, Patsy Lane and The People Are Good are dedicated to Kay Mack nee Drummond, 1942-2015 formerly of Burnage, Manchester

Thanks to Maria Hayward, Beryl and Ven Hayward, Chorlton Folk Club, Harry Stafford, Phil Korbel and all the musicians who kindly participated on this record. Thank you also to the staff at the Athens Amedysis Hospice in Tennessee who made daily visits up Dayton Mountain. Thanks also to Debbie & Joel and Ann Case (health food, haircuts and peanut butter cookies!).
